MEASLES SYMPTOMS

MEASLES  is a viral disease affecting children between the age of six months and three years. A person exposed for the first time will develop a fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and white patches in the mouth. This occurs 3 to 7 days after the rash turns red and usually does not spread from the face to the rest of the body. The rash usually lasts 4 to 7 days, but can last up to 3 weeks, after which brown, fuzzy patches appear, and sometimes permanent peeling of the skin. In severe cases, the lungs, intestines, and brain can be affected, leading to serious consequences or death. Measles infection during pregnancy can cause adversel pregnancy outcomes, including birth defects, preterm birth, and low birth weight, but there is no evidence that it increases the risk of birth defects. In addition, because the mother contracted measles soon after birth, an infected newborn is at an increased risk of developing subcutaneous sclerosing panencephalitis later in life. .
